Or so the thousands of stickers that were plastered all over Europe in the mid 90's said. One even made it onto one of the
greatest comedy movies ever made, The Full Monty. Yes, check it for
yourself. When the poster flashes on screen on the postbox advertising male strippers, check out the sticker above it. Fame
or what? Pity the movie came out just after the band split.
What is Northern Pop? Well for those of you that never
heard The Ferrymen, they were turned down by nearly every major record label in the UK for sounding too much like The Housemartins and The
Beautiful South. Of course these bands never sold any records did they? Oh yeah, and The
Ferrymen were from Doncaster and it just aint cool to come from Donny.
But The Ferrymen were appreciated much more in Europe than in The UK. In 1996 they released
a single in Germany on Black Pearl Records and also a CD of 5 songs in Spain on Plastic
Disc Records.
They toured both Spain 1996 and Germany 1997.
They were due to release an album in Germany on Mad Butcher Records
but the band split up before the deal could be finalised.
A full 20 track album was released in February 2009 on German label Fire
Station Records, 12 years after the band split.
"Anyway Terry, as I was saying. We skipped the light fandango, turned cart wheels 'cross
the floor, I was feeling kinda seasick, but the crowd called out for more."
